A Pilot Action Plan for the Lake Shkodra

Lake Shkodra, Albania

The Albanian Development Fund has successfully concluded to the selection of the Pilot Action Plan in Lake Shkodra in August 2019. This pilot action aims to establish a GIS register and draw maps of artisanal handicraft producers in the Lake Shkodra area, as well as to develop capacities of local farmers regarding organic farming.

Why a pilot action plan is necessary?

Ecosystem services have a significant impact on the daily lives of communities and visitors in and around Lake Shkodra. Human activities in the area, including business activities, have led to strained natural resources which have a negative impact on the ecosystem and its services. The last JTF meeting carried out in Shkodra in May, 2019 agreed on the proposed pilot action plan as an important intervention in the area. This pilot action plan will diversify the touristic experience in the area by creating a handcrafter’s register, promote ecofriendly activities around Lake Shkodra, diminish the amount of pesticides and herbicides used and decrease overall pressure on natural resources.

Next steps

The Lake Shkodra pilot action plan will be carried out through November and December.
